Brief Introduction to
Chinese Herbal Tea

Herbal Tea, is a herbal or plant infusion and usually not made from the leaves of the tea bush (Camellia sinensis). About 4,700 years ago, the ancient Chinese people discovered the use of herbs to help fight disease and maintain a healthy body. Typically, herbal tea is simply the combination of boiling water and dried fruits, flowers or herbs. It usually tastes bitter or lightly sweet and its colour is typically black or dark brown, depending on what kinds of herbs are used. Among Chinese, herbal tea is commonly known as liong cha (Cantonese) or liang cha (Mandarin). Chinese herbal teas are caffeine-free and can be enjoyed by themselves, or added to your tea for an added herbal boost. Although it is referred to as “tea”, it seldom contains any part of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis).

We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal teas, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
